The Fort Vancouver National Trust held a fundraiser for the Pearson Field Education Center on Saturday, May 21, to benefit aviation education for youth in our community. The event raised over $123,000 from community members in attendance, in support of the non-profit aviation-based learning center.
Funds will be dedicated to the Pearson Field Education Center's STEM-based aviation education programs, which introduce students, and the public to potential careers in aviation through a curriculum steeped in the rich history of Pearson Field. Proceeds will support programs such as aviation summer camps and education resource fairs, open cockpit day events, school outreach programs, and free Open Saturdays in the learning lab.
The event was sponsored by Columbia Credit Union, NW Natural, and Neil Kelly. Motivational speaker, Jessica Cox, the first armless person to acquire a pilot's license, was keynote speaker. She remained on the premises after the event, to talk with attendees and sign her first book, Disarm your Limits.
Another event at Pearson Field Education Center, Open Cockpit Day, is next Saturday, May 28. It's a day of free aviation-related activities, and opportunities to climb into the cockpits of various aircraft. Pearson Field Education Center is located at the bottom of East Reserve Street, at 201A East Reserve Street, Vancouver WA 98661.

The Pearson Field Education Center is a program of the Fort Vancouver National Trust, a 501c3 nonprofit since 1998. Pearson Field Education Center delivers experiential, aviation-based science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for youth. It is open on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for youth and families to enjoy free activities, such as glider building, flight simulation, and other educational aviation fun. Weeklong aviation summer camps begin June 28.
At the Pearson Field Education Center, we are passionate about our mission to "educate, inspire and promote the Golden Age of Aviation at Pearson Field." Our roots include two decades of work by the Pearson Field Historical Society, Fort Vancouver National Trust (a 501c3 nonprofit since 1998) and their supporters. In 2014, PFEC was the recipient of the Washington Aviation Association Northwest Spirit Award. PFEC builds on 110 years of rich aviation and cultural history at Pearson Field and the surrounding Historic Reserve. Pearson Field is the oldest continuously operating airfield in the Pacific NW and one of the two oldest continuously operating airfields in the United States.
